The rules of Pétanque Flèches are virtually identical to those of petanque, which is played with boules and a jack.

The differences can be summed up in a few simple points:

- The cochonnet in Pétanque Flèches Horizontale is a fixed point, while that in Pétanque Flèches Parabolique is a large, round ball about 30 cm in diameter. They cannot be changed during a game.

- If it is not possible to determine which of 2 opponents' arrows is closest, each opponent scores the point.

- The person or team who lost the game is the first to shoot his/her first arrow in the new game.

- If the arrow hits the fixed point and falls to the ground, it cannot be taken into account.

- The 2 types of Pétanque Flèches can be played individually - in doublettes or triplettes.

At the start of the match, the opponents define the score to be reached and/or the duration to win the game.

Shooting distances vary from 10m to 30m for Pétanque Flèches Horizontale, and 20 to 50m for Pétanque Flèches Parabolique.

The activity can last between 2 and 3 hours.
