Le Refuge des Lézards

The gîte sleeps 3 people and is located in the Ustou valley, in the Haut-Couserans region.
A calm, simple and unusual place, surrounded by greenery, white water and mountains. For nature lovers!

The gîte is on the banks of the GR10 and the River Alet (left bank) at an altitude of 800 metres. Situated on the soulane, in a well-kept plot of 1500 m2, bordered by forest and meadows. A privileged setting with superb views of the Pyrenees mountain range.

Close to a hamlet (Bidous), yet relatively isolated. Free parking. From the Bidous car park, it's a 250-metre walk, with a 30-metre gradient. Bring good shoes and avoid wheeled suitcases. PRM access is difficult if not impossible.

It's very quiet! And even very wild. You're right in the middle of nature.

If you're worried about the heat, this is ideal. The gîte stays cool in summer, with its 70/80 cm wide stone walls, insulation and double glazing on all windows. The air conditioning is natural.

The gîte comprises an entrance hall and bathroom on the ground floor of the same barn, a large living room of around 35 m2 on the 1st floor of an old barn with a balcony overlooking the mountains and peaks, and a private outdoor terrace with garden furniture, another with a dry-stone barbecue and picnic table.

Hiking is king in all seasons: Bidous is on the GR10. You'll also find plenty of family walks (les chemins de pays) or hikes (GR) to high-altitude lakes, border passes and summits.
If you enjoy picking mushrooms, the surrounding woods are famous for their mushrooms, and the mountains offer blueberries, raspberries and wild strawberries depending on the season.

In spring and summer, you can fish for trout in the River Alet and the mountain lakes.
