THE Nature and Sensations destination of the Couserans ! Of course, outdoor activities can be practised everywhere in the Couserans. However, around the resorts of Aulus and Guzet, you’ll find a huge number of fantastic outdoor activities !
In winter, it is the ski resort which unites the two communes of Aulus and Ustou, from the Col de Latrappe, via Guzet 1400 and the Prat Mataou, to the Col d’Escots and the Pic du Freychet.
All year round, and especially in summer, this area packs in a whole lot of excitement within a small radius !
In this pure mountain area :
The Guzet Express alpine coaster
One of the longest in Europe ! With a steep drop, a magnificent landscape and a frantic descent at over 40 km/h … or maybe not ! Everyone is free to go at their own pace, deciding how much to release the brakes. This way, the activity can be shared with the whole family. You can even get on the same alpine coaster with the little ones ! In summer, the chairlift ride also allows you to enjoy breathtaking views of the ridges bordering Spain. What’s more, you can opt just to ride the chairlift with a pedestrian pass, available at the ticket office. Or perhaps you’d rather go downhill mountain biking …
Despite my apprehension for adrenaline-filled activities, I went for it. How could I recommend this flagship activity in Guzet without having tried it for myself ? At first, I took it very easily, clinging onto the brakes … Then, after I had calmed down and had more confidence in the bike, I was able to enjoy this new, effortless way of descending the Picou and, finally, with a great deal of pleasure !
The express alpine coaster at Guzet : a lovely chairlift ride in summer, then a nice dose of adrenaline in a few minutes of descent ! Come on, I really recommend it !
Le Guzet Mountain Bike Park
Le Guzet Mountain Bike Park (Downhill and Enduro mountain biking) : a very comprehensive mountain-bike area with FFC certification. From the green slopes, which can be enjoyed as a family with children able to ride a bike (from about 8 years old), to the black slopes. From the blue slopes, you’ll start with slightly raised turns, as a parallel « single » (narrow path) allows you to gradually try your first jumps. For the experienced, the red run has a « north shore » variant, while the black ones are simply wild. The enduro routes offer a total descent of 1000 metres, from the Col d’Escots to Aulus or Ustou in the valley !
The Couserans Trail-Area
Aulus-les-Bains was the first certified trail resort “Station de Trail © ” in the Pyrenees, making it a place you won’t want to miss! Thriving since then, you’ll find all the best tools to discover trail running or to improve your skills with magnificent races in the middle of the mountains, or even a training stadium and a permanent vertical kilometre ! Don’t forget to test out the Tourn de la Cascade d’Ars in June : a mythical mountain race. The long version of the trail heads to the resort of Guzet, with this route featured in the permanent guidebooks available online or on site.
Acro’lus (the tree-top adventure course)
The thermal park of Aulus is not just a haven of refreshment in summer for your family picnics : its century-old trees also host a first-class high-ropes course near the springs. Equipped to welcome children from 3 years old with its « pitchounets » course, with a continuous lifeline on all courses, and red and black routes for the most athletic, as well as zip lines and much more … It’s a real treat !
Mountain Karting
This relatively new activity in Guzet is developing and expanding. Descending in these three-wheel karts, without engines, offers a guaranteed adrenaline rush and is, for now, only for adults and teenagers ! See you at the bottom !
Again ?!
You will also find a equestrian centre in Ustou, paragliding, an introduction to rock climbing and, of course, the start of our majestic hikes to lakes, peaks or cross-border summits !
And after all this energy and adrenaline, what could be better than enjoying yourself at the end of the day in the aqua relaxation area of Aulus les Bains ?!
